For the 2022-23 academic year, tuition at Western Governors University rose by 7.5%, as revealed in the most recent report, according to the latest disclosure from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Students paid $8,010 to attend the private, nonprofit university this year, an increase of $558 from the $7,452 charged during the 2021-22 academic year.

Approximately 9% of the undergraduate student body are Utah residents, while the remaining 91% come from other states.

Data indicates that 66% of full-time undergraduates who enrolled at Western Governors University in 2022-23 received some form of financial aid. Specifically, 718 students were awarded grants or scholarships totaling $3.6 million, and 684 students secured student loans amounting to over $2.8 million.

Among all undergraduates, 44,744 students received grants or scholarships totaling $204.9 million. Additionally, 48,094 students borrowed $270.8 million in federal student loans.

Meanwhile, student loan debt has steadily increased over the last 30 years, reaching $1.75 trillion in 2024, averaging a total of $28,950 per borrower. Federal loans make up 92% of the debt, with over half of students at both public and private four-year colleges graduating with student loans.
